Training

What types of training programs does WSRMP offer to member districts; what is the fee; how do we arrange for training; how many district employees need be present?

We have three types of programs:

1. WSRMP staff develop presentations relating to school safety and appear as guest speakers for Washington educational organizations such as:

    • Washington Association of School Business Officials (WASBO)
    • Washington Association of Maintenance Operations Administrators (WAMOA)
    • Washington Association for Pupil Transportation (WAPT)
    • Washington Association of Vocational Administrators (WAVA)
    • Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA)
    • Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA)

2. We are asked to make a presentation at a specific school district on a topic of concern to the district.  WSRMP provides all of these programs at no cost to member districts. When we come to the district site, we ask districts to have an audience of 25 or more employees present (which can include nearby member districts) and some advance notice, as our calendars fill up quickly.

3. WSRMP sponsors many regional training seminars on important issues with nationally accredited trainers.  Many of these programs are offered via K20, videoconferencing.  Clock hours are available for most of these programs. Check out training under Regional Training

Scholarships

The National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI) promotes children’s rights to play and promotes nationally the importance play has to a child’s development.

WSRMP provides approximately 20 scholarships per year.  These include the registration fee, all required books and materials and the certification test, a total of $500/scholarship winner. WSRMP will not be responsible for release time or any expense compensation for lodging, food or travel.  Scholarship winners must be employed by a member district on the dates of the program.

When safety is your responsibility, the RIGHT RESPONSE Workshop is your essential toolbox for determining the best course of action in any situation to achieve a safe, lasting and positive result. Formerly known as SECURE, these tools will help you successfully manage aggression or behavioral challenges and help you prevent such incidents from occurring in the future! RIGHT RESPONSE has specialized applications for Risk Management, Special Education, Front Office Staff, School Security and complies with OSPI recommendations for school safety.

WSRMP is offering scholarships for workshop attendance and instructor certification. Instructor certification provides an effective method of maximizing the effect of staff training while minimizing recurrent training expenses for your district. For a schedule and more details on workshop and instructor certification levels, see http://RightResponse.org

All Member Districts of WSRMP can now receive free access to our latest member benefit: Sexual Harassment: Minimize the Risk – Awareness Training for School Employees. The program is designed for both certificated and classified staff. It is available via the internet, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It takes less than an hour to complete, and you can print a certificate of completion for verification purposes.

Advanced Training – Sexual Harassment – Complaint Intake, Management and Investigation Training

School administrators are most at risk for liability and least prepared in the areas of receiving complaints,, management and investigation of complaints. This leaves the school district exposed and puts students and employees at risk. Program participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to conduct a thorough, unbiased investigation from receipt of initial complaint to completing the final report.  It is available via the internet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (11 units comprised of 4 lessons each).  College credit is available for this program.  Scholarship application will be available in late September.
